A live one day seminar, taking a virtual tour of the Holy Land.

St Jerome (347-420AD) declared that the physical land of Israel was the key to understanding the Gospels. In light of that, join us as we explore the land that is the staging and scenery at the heart of God’s big story.

Land is the determining factor in human culture: settlements – dwellings – fresh water – crops – food – clothing – manufacture -who and how you worship – who and where you fight… all emerge from the geography. The great story of Jesus is played out in what can only be described as the most unique and diverse geographical context. Taking time to understand this land in greater detail will enhance your understanding of His-story.

In this one day seminar we will unpack how the lands of the Bible dominate and shape the events, culture, worldview and theology of its peoples, but also how the biblical authors use the geography of the land to shape you!

SPEAKER: MARK HENDLEY

A Christian since 1993, Mark has been in vocational Christian Ministry since 1999. He is a graduate of Moorlands Bible College and was awarded a Degree in Applied Theology and the Preaching Prize. He has trained with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and studied Biblical Archaeology with Bar Ilan University, Israel.

Mark has served full time in both the Baptist and New Frontiers spheres and has ministered in the UK and abroad; within Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, Free Church, Charismatic and Pentecostal circles. He has spent time in Iraq, Egypt, Jordan and Israel, which might explain his passion for the Geography, History and Culture of the Ancient Near Eastern world of the Bible. Since founding The Stones Cry Out, he has hosted thousands of Christians on tours of the British Museum’s biblical artefacts, and text focussed trips to Israel.

Mark is passionate about quality, interactive and inspired teaching that unlocks the Scriptures for believers, so that they can mine the riches so often clouded by the distance of Time, Space and Culture.

EXPECTATIONS

Aim:

To unlock the Scriptures, using the lense of the Land, so that you can mine the riches so often clouded by the distance of Time, Space and Culture.

Goal:

Enabling a deep and nuanced understanding of familiar bible accounts on the terms of the people who wrote and first heard them. A people greatly shaped by the Land. Land integral to the greatest story ever told: The Gospel of Jesus in all its depth and majesty.

Objectives:

  • To illuminate how and why almost every story of the bible is deliberately set in a geography.
  • To learn and recognise the many diverse geographies of the Holy Land
  • To understand how those geographies shape and carry along the story of God.
  • To spot how each location is not just shaping the story but also the theology of the story.
  • To recognise when an author is using a geographic location to challenge and shape you.
