FACILITATOR: MARK HENDLEY
A Christian since 1993, Mark has been in vocational Christian Ministry since 1999. He is a graduate of Moorlands Bible College and was awarded a Degree in Applied Theology and the Preaching Prize. He has trained with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and studied Biblical Archaeology with Bar Ilan University, Israel.
Mark has served full time in both the Baptist and New Frontiers spheres and has ministered in the UK and abroad; within Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, Free Church, Charismatic and Pentecostal circles. He has spent time in Iraq, Egypt, Jordan and Israel, which might explain his passion for the Geography, History and Culture of the Ancient Near Eastern world of the Bible. Since founding The Stones Cry Out, he has hosted thousands of Christians on tours of the British Museum’s biblical artefacts, and text focussed trips to Israel.
Mark is passionate about quality, interactive and inspired teaching that unlocks the Scriptures for believers, so that they can mine the riches so often clouded by the distance of Time, Space and Culture.
SUMMER SCHOOL:
A Deep Dive into the Gospel of John
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
EXPECTATIONS
Aim:
To unlock the Gospel of John, so that you can mine the riches often clouded by the distance of Time, Space and Culture.
Goal:
Enabling a deep and nuanced understanding of the purpose, structure, themes, theology and message of John’s Gospel and how they should impact us today.
Objectives:
- To explore John’s Gospel in its Ancient Near Eastern Time, Space and Culture.
- To demonstrate how John is leaning into his Hebrew history and culture rather than into the predominate Greek worldview of the Eastern Mediterranean.
- To engage with the Creation, Eden and Tabernacle/Temple echoes that frame Jesus’ life ministry, death and resurrection.
- To reflect on Jesus being the key to knowing God and entering into life with Him.
Experience:
We will be giving dedicated time to connecting, worship, teaching and colaborative interaction.
Text:
The main school translation will be the ESV.
